Why studying Japanese (ㅇㅅㅇ❀)

So I decided to study Japanese because I have been interested in Japanese culture for a long time. My family also travels to Japan pretty frequently. I thought it would be a good idea if I can pick up another East Asian language besides Chinese.

I am very excited about learning the casual, conversational phrases in Japanese. In addition, I enjoyed learning Hiragana because it has such a pretty form. I am looking forward to learning Kanji in the future!

I think the Japanese grammar was the most challenging part. However, I hope that I would be more fluent in Japanese soon ⋆ටᆼට⋆!

    1. Nice to meet you, Yamaguchi san! I am more than excited to chat with you on this blog. Hopefully we can both improve on our English and Japanese skills a lot this semester :)

I am a junior at Columbia University. I study Computer Science. In my free time, I like to play sports too, such as tennis and volleyball. I only tried boxing once last year, but I don't think I was strong enough :( It sounds really cool that you are in the boxing club!

      はじめまして、やまぐちさん。よろしくおねがいします。

  2. Nice passage on your interest with Japanese! I agree with you on Hiragana - it is a very aesthetically appealing way of writing. Also, your emoticon game is impressive. Never lose that, it will take you far one day.

    Peace! ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪

  3. I wish I could travel to Japan more often! I went this past summer and I'd love to go back. Have you been to Hokkaido before? I spent a week there in Sapporo with a host family and I loved it. The weather was so much cooler there than in Tokyo and we saw so many amazing things. I definitely want to hear about your trip there this winter break! じゃまたあした

  4. Also here because I thought I'd pick up another East Asian language other than Korean while I was in college! Although, Chinese is next on my list (once Japanese forces me to learn some Chinese characters). ps. nice korean emojis heh

    1. I totally relate! I have been studying some Koreans on the side as well. Sometimes I mess up words in Korean and Japanese because they sound so similar haha.

      ps. ⋆ටᆼට⋆ hehe

  5. I've only had the opportunity to travel to Japan twice--I'm almost jealous that you've been able to visit frequently! I'm also looking forward to learning more colloquial language, since so much of what we learn in language classes (whether they be Spanish, French, Chinese, etc.) is often overly formal or archaic.

    1. Twice is a lot already! Especially when you are travelling from the States the flight hours are insane. I agree with you about the fact that we learn mostly formal speaking in language classes. I watch a lot of Japanese shows on the side and sometimes I pick up slangs/casual speaking in that way. You should totally consider that as an option :)
